It would be nice to put install Cat5 cables into labs before computers are brought in.
We need to decide what would be best for the power bricks in labs (on table, floor, or hanging)
I think we missed some items by not having our pre-conference meeting. We have run into come minor issues that could have been prevented had we gone down our checklist in early December.
It is time to inspect, discard, organize, and purchase replacement power strips. With the increase in BROD labs, sessions, and requirements. This is becoming more crucial.
Every year we are reminded by Lori not to move furniture and to not remove chairs from the rooms. This is happening by board members and steering committee members. On three occasions I had to inform individuals that we cold not put tables in the isles of the rooms. One board member moved tables from next door rooms into a room with a presenter from his district.
By using all extra large screens in all rooms the projectors have had to be moved back. This results in our video cables being to short. 20 ft cables are to short for most implementations. 30 ft cables are needed with 40 preferred. 50 ft cables are often to long.
ACC
We have never had as little interaction with the operations side of the CC before. We did not see anyone before Tuesday. There was running finger pointing about taping on the north side, and the CC dug their heals in on it.
The network issues are history, but I must say I was unimpressed with the competence of the IT department.
I would like to see us move back to room boxes. This helps keep the rooms organized and speeds up setup/break down.
Velcro – If possible, I would like for us to purchase a big roll of the 8” velcro strips. This will help us organize all cables.
We need to re-organize the boxes. We need to have a VGA box, an HDMI box, etc. The old boxes are dead. Long live the old boxes. Let’s replace the old boxes.
I agree wit Tom about dongles. To add to the confusion, there are a variety of presenter devices requiring a variety of different connections. It is sad that presenters do not bring with them that which they need. It is even sadder that some have no idea about which connection they need.
TechSperts
Let’s go back to the normal height table. The high tables/chairs are awkward. On the south side, one table w/two chairs. On the north side two tables with four chairs. Due to a shortage of crew members, we only had three on the north side in 2017, but I plan to return to four if crew participation allows. Using the dressing room on the north side gives us the necessary storage we need.
I think before convention ever starts, we need to plan all the subnets with the convention center crew.
This includes talking about speed caps on ports, and isolation of subnets as well as SSIDS and DHCP scopes. We also want to make sure we know what size pipes we have upstream and what are going through them. I would like wired, wireless, and the exhibitors to all be on separate pipes.
Knowing this ahead of time will allow as to catch some problems before convention even starts, and allow us to better troubleshoot problems when they happen.
I agree with Kory. In the past the CC tech crew did a good job. With the experience we just had, I think we need to be proactive rather than go down in flames during the convention.
We need to reorganize all boxes. They have gotten mixed up over the past few years.

Do we have a need to look at supporting Apple TVs and AirPlay? let’s start the brainstorming on how we pull off AirPlay, at least in some rooms.

Dongles were by far our biggest head ache on the north side.

It is time to consider going HDMI only.

We need to look at this. We had several presenters who only had VGA dongles. We may have several more years of transition.

It is appropriate for board members to bring their own dongles as we expect from presenters.

The North Side normally runs 3 members, yet we only have 2 chairs. Can we get a third stool for the tech crew table and station?

Make sure Virgil is healthy. Sounds like I missed all the fun. I did receive several calls from folks about the internet not working.
